Keys to the kingdom?

May 15, 2006

Thanks for all the great posts.

Alice discovered or knew to look for the power to “bless” your postings. Thank you Alice for taking care of that. Several people sent me e-mails over the weekend asking where their stuff went. I apologize for the delay. I was out of town and off the Net. (The seperation anxiety was extreme.)

For me this raises a question of adminstration. Should everyone simply be given the keys to the admin kingdom or should we parse it out. Right now Alice and I have admin power. Simply because I set it up and Alice was online when I did it. Being an admin lets you post without the step of the moderator.

A case can be made for both sides and I don’t have strong feelings either way. Let me know what you think and we’ll sort it out democratically.

I too can make a case for both sides of this question. On the one hand, we are all professionals and we trust each other so there’s probably no need to moderate the content. On the other hand, I always appreciate having an editor – a fresh pair of eyes to look at my writing before it’s published. Sometimes my writing is not as clear as I think it is and I’ve been known to make an occasional typo or spelling error.

If Mike and Alice don’t mind the extra work and responsibility, I think I’d like them to be the administrators. But… I know they are busy people and that may be too much to ask.

How’s that for a definitive answer?

I think as professionals we should all have access to be able to post to the blog. As admins we will be able to help take care of typos and other errors. This will also not pile all the work on Mike and Alice. I know they are both really busy people so it may be easier to edit/delete problem posts than to have to lock it down.

Maybe we should try it out open for a while and see if any problems arise. If they do, we can always lock it down. If this is going to really take off, we’ll want to be able to post to the blog immediately.

I would like to be able to post and I don’t see a need for an administrator, but I’m new to communicating using blogs so I may be missing something.

I too feel that as professionals we can be responsible for the content we post. I don’t want to add a burden on to Alice and Mike. We can manage our own posts as we would if the blog were our own.

    Here’s my proposal…

    1. Everyone on the list is an admin.
    2. Everyone we know from here on out will be an admin.
    3. Strangers will earn they way up in a process to be determined.

    Sound good?

    Okay, you convinced me.

I like everyone being an admin. Interestingly when I went to post the comment page said I had to be logged in… does this mean all of you have to make edublog accounts first?

Yes, we all have to have edublog accnts to comment.

Now that I have the keys to the kingdom, I think I’ll change the look of the place.
